How my email marketing journey started… all the way back to 1994! (Part 2 - Finale!)

If you just landed on this blog, awesome but it will make more sense if you read Part 1 first.

Don’t feel like it? Then read on...

It’s April 2001 and I have started my job at Univision (www.univision.com), which at that time, was the largest Spanish Content TV channel in the US. I was hired as a Content Administrator/HTML Developer and one of the projects I was assigned was email marketing. At that point, I had not idea what it was but it consisted of creating these beautiful PSD files into an HTML file so I said sure. That was the beginning of a, so far, 17 year relationship (and a permanent one!). Wow, I honestly never thought I would specialize in this field.

What caught my attention was to see the interaction of the customers once they would receive the list. It was awesome to see the numbers rise, open rate, click-through rate and some unsubscribes (that was the least exciting part). To this day, seeing those metrics and the impact an email makes on a business, keeps me motivated!

After my tenure at Univision, I was hired as an eMarketing Manager for Carnival Cruise Lines (www.carnival.com). This was a whole different animal. There were millions of emails in their list and, I have to be honest, I was scared and overwhelmed. This was a larger database and very different industry than I had dealt with. I started when the new email service provider, CheetahMail, started. They were amazing and had the BEST CUSTOMER TEAM EVER! I truly learned about email and my skills grew exponentially during this job. I was even a speaker at their annual conference! I presented one of our programs to over 500 email marketers in NYC. I was so scared but I did it. Sometimes, you have to do things that scare you!

After 5 years at Carnival, I moved on to another travel company, Spirit Airlines (I know, I will get some comments on that one! LOL). It was 2012 and by that time, I felt more confident and solid in my marketing and technical skills. I was hired as Sr. Manager of Email and Advertising. I had the best time with their marketing. I know, they can be a little out there but from my view, it was tons of fun and I learned so much more about the travel industry.

Around that time, I began to feel the need to spend more time with my kids so I decided to walk away from corporate and got a job closer to home with www.1sale.com. This was a family owned ecommerce, daily deal website and they needed a director of email marketing. It was a great fit for my life goal and helped me gain experience in the ecommerce industry.

Once I finished there, I went soloooooooooooo! Can I tell you that I was freaking out???? I had been in corporate ALL MY LIFE but I always knew that I wanted to be on my own. I wanted the freedom to do whatever I wanted.

And here I am today. I actually went back to corporate but my heart is in helping others in their business through what I know best, email marketing. I realized during my freelance, that I needed a plan. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. I didn't as well as I hoped but I'm not giving up. So here I am! Ready to build my business in helping others achieve their dreams.

I am very grateful to share my experience with you and I look forward to working with you and helping you monetize your business through email marketing.
